The Role
Are you interested in a new pace of life on Vancouver Island in beautiful BC? If you hold an American Board of Psychiatry diploma, you may eligible for licensure with the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Opportunities span the continuum of care, including Child and Adolescent, Adult, Development Disability Mental Health, Addictions and Geriatric services. Participation in the Psychiatry on-call group is a requirement of Island Health Psychiatry services. Psychiatrists with Island Health work in a variety of settings including, in-patient services at tertiary facilities and hospitals, and out-patient services at Mental Health Substance Use programs and community out-patient centers.
The Island Health Psychiatry Department is strongly committed to undergraduate and postgraduate education. Clinical faculty appointments are available for all Psychiatrists through a joint application to the University of Victoria Island Medical Program and University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine. Opportunities exist to teach Medical Students, Family Practice and Psychiatry Residents.
Administrative duties of Psychiatry positions include attending clinical team meetings and providing reports to the Department of Psychiatry meetings.
Sponsored site visits/interviews available as well as relocation assistance to successful candidates.
As the Island’s Health Authority, we work collaboratively with Colleges/Provincial agencies – we are experts in the licensing and immigration process.

Requirements
- Psychiatrists must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.
- Psychiatrists must be eligible for Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada–Psychiatry
